Olympic qualifying canoe & kayak races are coming to Lake Lanier in May, 2016.  Organizers are seeking volunteers today.

COPAC (Spanish acronym for the Pan American Canoe Federation) chose the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue to host the Pan American Championships Continental Olympic Qualifier for Juniors and Seniors.

USA Canoe/Kayak (USACK) and Gainesville Hall ‘96 will coordinate the races from Thursday, May 19, 2016, through Sunday May 22nd on beautiful Lake Lanier, former host to the world’s best athletes during the 1996 Olympic Games.

The COPAC press release says:

The Lake Lanier Olympic Venue’s technical facilities from the 1996 Olympic Games and Lanier Canoe 2003 World Championships have been well maintained.

Fiber optic data infrastructure connecting the venue with video, sound and data, remote weather station, Finish Lynx system and Ameristart Start system provide an array of communications and technology capabilities well suited for hosting international sporting events.

The 25,000 square foot boathouse [serves] as interior boat storage … along with providing facilities for doping control and sports medicine.  Athletes [have] the convenience of locker rooms, restroom facilities [and] showers.  There is [an] Olympic Finish Tower and stone amphitheater with seating for over 2000.
