One of the best times to visit Vogel State Park — 233 of North Georgia’s most beautiful acres in the mountains — will be on Saturday, October 8, 2012, from 10 AM until 5 PM.
That’s the date for this year’s Mountain Music and Arts & Craft Festival.
Skilled musicians will present Appalachian, bluegrass and gospel music that will get your toes tapping and your heart thumping. Artists will be there to trade their priceless creations for your almost-worthless dollars. What a deal!!!
The cheerful Vogel Volunteers will have tasty food to keep you fueled for the festivities.
Located about 10 miles south of Blairsville, Vogel’s glorious Lake Trahlyta is best experienced in one of the paddleboats available for rent. Some visitors, however, believe the short hike around the rim is the best way to enjoy the lake. Others say you can only get to know the deep still waters by parking yourself on a cozy swing to watch it for a few hours; unless, of course, you rent one of the cabins that overlook the water and gaze at it all day long.
Vogel State Park has an abundance of trails, plenty of campsites, lots of small spots for tents, and parking places for RVs only a Powerball winner could afford.
The Appalachian Trail (AT) and Blood Mountain are within walking distance, even if you’re not prepared to hike the entire AT.
Portions of Vogel, and other buildings nearby, were constructed by the valiant Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) during the Great Depression. The park’s museum tells the story of the CCC Boys.
