We want to clear up a couple of errors in our August 8th story about the Forrest Wood Cup fishing tournament on Lake Lanier.
• Forty-six of America’s best professional bass fishermen are in the tournament, not 78.
• The top prize given to the winner is $500,000, not a million dollars.
• If my personal calculations are correct, the total amount of money distributed to all the winners comes to $1,410,000. Please do not take my word for it, however. I cannot even do my own taxes. You can, however, CLICK HERE to see the official payouts.
Finally, I would like to apologize for telling my next door neighbors that I could win this tournament in a rowboat with my ultralight rod and a few worms. That is not true. I would need a motorboat and additional lures in order to win.
The bass pro who stands to “earn” the top prize $500,000 for catching fish on Lake Lanier had far more incentive to be at Laurel Park at 6 AM than I have, being a lowly freelance writer. Therefore, I arrived at the crack of 11 AM and everyone had — hello? — gone fishing. We were not deterred.
My motorcycle — Grasshopper, the humble ninja — can perform many feats; it cannot, however, go very far into Lake Lanier to help me take pictures of bass boats. So, we took pictures of the bass pro’s SUVs, the empty display units and the clear boat ramps. We hope you will enjoy our artistry as much as we enjoyed our good night’s sleep.
