We’re thankful that Tracy Barth, president of the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club (LCKC), let us know the 2017 USA C/K Flatwater Sprint National Team Trials will be hosted by LCKC on Lake Lanier.
This marks the second straight year that LCKC has been the organizing committee and host club for this world-famous event. LCKC has 19 athletes competing this year.
On Saturday, May 20th and Sunday May 21st, athletes from around America will compete at Lake Lanier Olympic Park for a place on the Senior, Junior, or Paracanoe National Team.
Competitors may choose between three distances: 1000 meters, 500 meters, and 200 meters. The USA C/K Flatwater Sprint National Team will be selected based on the results from these events.
“We are very fortunate to be hosting this year’s event and to have 19 of our hometown athletes competing— some with a goal of securing a spot on Team USA and others hoping to gain valuable race experience,” said Tracy Barth, president of LCKC and coordinator of the event. “Our athletes have been training hard all year for this event, sometimes practicing 15-20 hours per week. This is where all of that hard work pays off.”
Athletes selected for the National Team will travel internationally over the summer to Szeged, Hungary; Belgrade, Serbia; Racice, Czech Republic; or, Pitesti, Romania. Once there, they will compete at various events, including the 2017 Canoe Sprint World Championships and World Cup.
