Hawgin on Lanier is a backyard BBQ competition between fire stations, police precincts, EMT services and other amateur cooks, and it all supports local charities. That’s enough information to inspire most of us to attend this tasty event at 2 PM at Laurel Park on Saturday, August 27, 2016.
But wait (as TV commercials say) there’s more! The BBQ competition has cash prizes in the Pork Butt, Pork Ribs, and Chicken categories, with a Grand Champion award too.
Adult tickets are only $10 for a BBQ plate & drink, admission to the craft show, a live concert and an awe-inspiring fireworks show after dark. Kids under 9 get in free and you can purchase food for them at Hawgin on Lanier.
Our Gainesville Jaycees do this to kiss summer goodbye and to support young people in Hall County through the programs, Gut Check and Empty Stocking Fund.
Laurel Park is off of Cleveland Highway, just north of Gainesville. There’s plenty of parking, lots of boat ramps, and a beautiful walking path that will melt away some of the delicious BBQ you’ll enjoy at the festival.
