More than a thousand volunteers can proudly pat themselves on their backs — after washing their hands first — in celebration of all the tons of trash they removed from Lake Lanier during the 27th Annual Shore Sweep.

Shore Sweep is the brainchild of our friends at the Lake Lanier Association (LLA), but victories such as the one on Saturday, September 27, 2014, take the combined efforts of many groups, individuals and organizations, including Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and others.

Joanna Cloud, executive director of LLA, also had the assistance of park officials and the managers of several marinas on Lake Lanier.

This year there were ten places around the lake where people were invited to dump their trash in the week prior to the day of the cleanup.

Shore Sweep Partners in Grime:

  • Bald Ridge Marina
  • Holiday Marina
  • Aqualand
  • Sunrise Cove Marina
  • Gainesville Marina
  • Port Royale Marina
  • Lake Lanier Islands
  • Clarks Bridge Park
  • Gwinnett Park and
  • War Hill Park.

Without their help, Lake Lanier would still have tons and tons of trash, Styrofoam, flotsam, jetsam and plain old trash from shore to shore.

On behalf of the millions of annual visitors to our Great Lake, thanks to one and all for making this the trashiest Lake Lanier Shore Sweep ever!
