
Many Americans have forgotten our nation’s history. Some people think the 4th of July is when we commemorate the day Lewis & Clark discovered Plymouth Rock and celebrated the first Thanksgiving with Benjamin Franklin. Pffft. Here in Georgia we know Independence Day is all about fireworks on Lake Lanier.
If you won’t be heading to Lake Lanier Islands for their Red, White & Blue 4th of July festival, there are other options.

The weather looks great for the July 4th holiday, unlike the past few that have been rained out. The Weather Channel says there’s no chance of rain on Thursday & Friday and only a 10% chance of rain in the Gainesville vicinity on Saturday.
Our friends in Cumming are celebrating the 4th of July with fireworks on the 3rd of July. Look for the rockets’ red glare somewhere around 9:30 PM.

The American Legion fireworks display will be held at Laurel Park at 9:30 PM on Friday, July 4th. The park opens at 9 AM. Cost is $5.00 per car. Laurel Park is located at 3100 Old Cleveland Highway in Gainesville.
The University Yacht Club on Lake Lanier will hold a BBQ & fireworks on Saturday, July 5th. This is a members-only affair that most of us cannot attend; however, we’re invited to view the fireworks “from the water” or at nearby Burton Mill Park.
