2017 Bear on the Square Mountain FestivalIf you’ve never had the pleasure to attend Dahlonega’s Bear on the Square Mountain Festival, you’re missing out.  This annual festival features some of the best bluegrass music around.  You’ll find impromptu jam sessions scattered around the historic square, as well as a packed line-up of get you moving, toe-tapping music on the MainStage.  There’s also mountain crafts, storytelling, kids activities, food, dance performances, and so much more.

Dahlonega will be hosting their 21st annual Bear on the Square Mountain Festival this April 22nd and 23rd.  To kick off the event, there will be a Friday night auction starting at 5pm in the MainStage Tent on Friday, April 21st.

Friday Night Auction

The auction is the main fundraiser for the event and will include a silent and live auction at the festival’s MainStage Tent, as well as live music and food, wine and beverages from Shenanigans Restaurant & Irish Pub and Bourbon Street Grille.

Previous auctioned items included donated art from local artists as well as items contributed from local businesses, organizations and community members.

A professional auctioneer will begin the live auction at 7pm.

  • 5pm – viewing of silent and live auction items, bidding of silent auction items & serving of food and drink
  • 5:30pm – featured band begins performing
  • 7pm – silent auction bidding closes & live auction begins

  • Tickets are $5 and cover the cost of a bidding paddle, dinner and wine.
  • Admission is free for the following: volunteers and festival artists with name badges, and auction donors and festival sponsors with tickets.

Bear on the Squre Musicians and Schedule – 2017

You’ll find a fantastic line-up of musicians performing on the MainStage, from 10:30am on Saturday and from 11am on Sunday.

In addition to the MainStage, there’ll be loads of awesome jam sessions around the square.  Musicians will start to gather Friday afternoon, and jam sessions will pop up throughout the whole weekend.  Bring a chair and your instrument, meet some new friends, and make some music – or, just enjoy the ambiance of Dahlonega’s Bear on the Square.

Moonlight Jam, Saturday, April 22nd

You don’t want to miss the Moonlight Jam on Saturday, April 2nd from 7:30pm-9:30pm.  The Moonlight Jam is free to attend, thanks to its sponsor, Jekyll Brewing Company of Alpharetta.  Banjo artist Rev. Jeff Mosier will host the jam.  Attendees will have the chance to play and sing with the pros, or to just enjoy the music around.  Jekyll Brewing will have a variety of their top selling craft beers available for purchase.  Oh my, it sure sounds like a fun time.

The Artist Marketplace

The artist marketplace features work of top quality local artists.  The marketplace has booths set up on Saturday and Sunday around Dahlonega’s historic square.  You may even stumble upon a folk artist demonstrating blacksmithing, weaving or woodcarving.
