20th Anniversary of Dahlonega’s Bear on the Square Festival

It’s hard to perceive the incessant passage of time.  For example, can you believe it’s the 20th anniversary of Dahlonega’s Bear on the Square Festival!

This annual celebration of Southern Appalachian music, art and folklore will be held, rain or shine, on Saturday and Sunday, April 16-17, 2016.

Friday evening, the 15th, is the best way to recover from paying your taxes: free bluegrass and old-time music on Dahlonega’s iconic Southern town square.

Adopt a work of art or two from the tremendously skilled artists selling traditional mountain crafts.  Once again, if you’re really sweet and kind, you might be able to trade paper money for stuff that’s really valuable.

On Saturday and Sunday the best music (no offense, fiddlers) moves to the MainStage performances by local, regional, and national musicians.  If you’re partial to down-home gospel music, plan on attending the Sunday Morning Gospel Jam.

It wouldn’t be Bear on the Square without storytelling, free music workshops and demonstrations, an old-time mountain dance, John C. Campbell dance team performances, and an Acoustic Open Mic event.

Best of all?  Lovely Southern Belles and Mountain Men at every turn, polite crowds and enough comfort food to keep you comfortable until next year’s Bear on the Square.
