Executive Director Joanna Cloud says the annual meeting of the Lake Lanier Association (LLA) held on March 19, 2016, went swimmingly at Pelican Pete’s at Port Royale Marina.
The weather forecast was iffy. That didn’t stop 500 lake lovers from dropping by for a fish fry, smoked chicken, a politician or two, and plenty of updates on all the good work done by the staff and volunteers from LLA.
Congressman Doug Collins gave an update on his efforts to resolve several issues, including the lifted Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) ban on irrigation permits at Lake Lanier. Collins also gave his views about how the ACE is dealing with the problem of abandoned vessels along the shoreline of Lake Lanier.
Two special individuals, Diane and Tom Rothberg, were recognized at the annual meeting as Volunteers of the Year for their tremendous efforts in getting the Band-A-Long trash trap installed in Flat Creek. That’s gone a long way toward preventing significant amounts of debris from entering Lake Lanier.
The other heroes of the evening were the Lanier Crappie Anglers Club. They caught, filleted and fried 1,500 helpings of tasty fish … and the crowd went wild!
If you care about Lake Lanier’s water levels, purity or safety, join LLA.
