Georgia’s Fort Yargo State Park is one of the best kept secrets in our entire region.  We’re here to spread the news that thirteen new cabins for campers make Fort Yargo State Park an even better place to visit and spend the night.

This large, scenic, safe park is named after a 1792 log fort built by settlers for protection against Creek and Cherokee Indians.  You can rest away your days inside or take advantage of the park’s exceptional trails for mountain bikers and hikers on 18 miles of trails.

The park’s wooded disc golf course is exceptionally challenging. A lake offers a large swimming beach, fishing and boat ramps.  For the less energetic, sitting and staring at the reflection of clouds in the water is a favorite pastime.

The 260-acre lake will be lowered several feet during February for maintenance, so access to both boat ramps will be restricted temporarily.

Fort Yargo State Park is an easy drive from Lake Lanier … just a few miles outside of Winder.  The delightful cabins have two cozy bedrooms, a sleeper sofa, a clean bathroom, a kitchen, a television and screened-in porch. Most of the cabins have views of the park’s sparkling lake.

For the hearty souls who insist on going outside, there’s a picnic table and fire ring that are perfect for making memories and s’mores.

Guests in the camper cabins usually bring their own kitchen utensils and linens.  For an extra fee, linen service is available.  Dogs are welcome in two of the camper cabins, with advance reservations.

Enjoy a day or a couple of pleasant weeks at Fort Yargo State Park.
