Oakwood’s City Hall was abuzz on Friday, January 24, 2014, when the Hall County Green Alliance handed out well-deserved honors to ladies and gentlemen who are leaders and exemplary stewards of our local natural environment.

Non-profit groups, men and women in business and local agencies comprise the Hall County Green Alliance (HCGA).  Their common goals are to keep Hall County’s natural resources as pure as possible and to preserve them for future generations. HCGA’s mission is to engage the community, inspire environmental action and to create a greener footprint and a healthier economy.

Bonny Putney, a volunteer with the Lake Lanier Association and other worthy groups, received the first-ever Volunteer of the Year Award.

Joanna Cloud accepted the HCGA Project/Initiative of the Year award on behalf of the hundreds of Shore Sweep volunteers who remove tons of garbage annually from Lake Lanier.

The Champion Award for those in the private sector was given to Robert Eidson, whose professional and volunteer work has significantly improved our environment.

The Champion Award for the private sector was presented to George Wangemann, who has done so much for the Lake Lanier region and North Georgia.

Rick Foote was presented with the Green “Foote” Print Award.  Rick earned this distinction for his 20-year legacy of exceptional service to our community and beyond.

A few people were honored by the Hall County Green Alliance — many more deserve recognition for their humble service.  We want to express our gratitude for those in the spotlight and for those whose work might never be publically celebrated.  Thanks … to one and all.
