There are good pirates and bad pirates. Not all pirates are scurvy dogs.
Take the Lone Ranger and Robin Hood. They appeared to be pirates but were actually public servants, like modern politicians … only they didn’t keep the loot.
The Pirates of Lanier are good! They “collect” money from everybody and give it to charity. Their only motivation is to help the needy — by hosting Lake Lanier’s best three-day party.
Well played, Pirates of Lanier. Well played.
They have friends in high (and low) places. Take the governor, for example. Aye, matey, Governor Nathan Deal is among the crew of the Pirates of Lanier. Sure, it might have been the grog or that threat to make him walk the plank, but the governor declared July 20, 2013 as Pirates Day on Lake Lanier.
Please Note: There is no truth to the rumor that the price of java at preppy coffee shops will be tripled on Pirates Day. Every day is Pirates Day for them. Thank you.
The party begins on Thursday, July 18th and sails all the way through Saturday the 20th.
The Poker Run is the most fun part, if you have a boat. The money raised helps these charities.
