A Department of Natural Resources officer confirmed with lakelanier.com that a boating accident took place around midnight on Friday night, May 24, 2013, on Lake Lanier near Old Federal Park.
Two people were injured when their Sea-Doo jet boat was heavily damaged after being struck by a boat that left the scene after the accident.
The victims have not been identified and were reported in stable condition at Gainesville’s Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Our friend, Melissa Cummings of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, confirmed these additional details with lakelanier.com regarding the two injuries:
“A 23-year-old, white male has numerous facial fractures. A 20-year-old female has a possible broken left foot and hand, and some facial injuries.”
Melissa also said, “The driver of the other vessel left the scene and has not been located at this time. We’re unsure the direction the other vessel went in when it left and we don’t have a very good description of it.”
Marinas, boat repair shops and the public should be on the lookout for a boat with possible glass damage, along with yellow and white “transfer marks.”
The boat that hit the Sea-Doo might have been a dark colored pontoon boat, but the investigation is still in its earliest stages.
