Four Campgrounds on Lake Lanier Reducing Hours

Four of the six full-service camping areas on Lake Lanier will be operated part-time during the 2013 season, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District.  These parks will be open four days per week:

  • Bolding Mill
  • Van Pugh South
  • Duckett Mill and
  • Sawnee campgrounds.

Sawnee had been open all winter and was growing in popularity.

Mobile District Public Affairs Officer E. Patrick Robbins says, “To keep our recreation operations within the budget we have received for this year it will be necessary to reduce days of availability at these four facilities and to reduce service (i.e. mowing, gate attendants’ hours, trash pick-up, etc) at several facilities at Lake Lanier.  These reductions are not related to sequestration but are required due to flat budgets and increased costs.”

The beautiful and inexpensive campsites around the lake provide rest and relaxation for many of the millions of people who visit Lanier annually.

USACE will also be operating 32 day-use parks for the 2013 recreation season, in addition to the six full-service camping areas.
