New Channel Markers Grace Lanier’s Sunset Cove

New red and green channel markers are floating offshore to help boaters navigate the crowded waters near Lake Lanier Islands Resort.

Lake Lanier Islands Management Company’s Chief Operations Officer Grier Todd said, “The combined safety and enjoyment of our guests is and always will be our number one concern.

“While Islands’ management and staff were all deeply saddened by the tragedies that have occurred elsewhere on Lake Lanier this summer, plans have been in the works to maximize the protection of Resort visitors ever since Sunset Cove was first conceived. We always strive to ensure a fun and safe environment here at the Islands.”

“The markers are an effort to assist the boating public in accessing the cove in a more organized fashion, while providing improved entry to the cove by first responders in case of an emergency,” said Lake Lanier Islands’ Bill Donohue.

As the graphic above illustrates, red channel markers must be kept to the right as boaters leave coves to return to main channels of lakes and rivers, etc.  Green channel markers must be kept to the right or starboard side when entering the harbors.

Sailors have many colorful phrases.  One is “red, right, returning.”  Another is, “Insult my parrot again and I’ll run ye through!”  For your safety on the high and low seas, please commit them to memory.

And don’t drive and drive — on land or sea.
