Update: Body Found in Lake Lanier Identified

Update:  Hall County Sheriff Deputy and Public Information Officer Nicole Bailes reported late Friday afternoon, September 25, 2015, that the body found in Lake Lanier on 9-23-15 has been publicly identified as 61-year-old Michael Gilmer of Flowery Branch.

The cause of death is still pending autopsy results.

Previous Details:  Senior Sargeant Kiley Sargent and Officer Chad Mann with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office report the news of a body found in Lake Lanier on Wednesday, September 23, 2015.

A passerby first discovered the badly decomposed white male’s body found in the lake near Sunrise Cove Marina, off Flat Creek Road in Gainesville shortly after 1 PM.

The Hall County Sheriff’s office responded and the incident remains under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigation Division.

No other details have been verified by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office regarding how or when Mr. Michael Gilmer went into Lake Lanier.

No exact cause of death has been determined, but the body was transported to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be performed.
