Learn to Row, Row, Row on Lake Lanier

There’s more to rowing a boat than effortlessly floating gently down your average stream, although that’s a fun way to spend a few hours with a favorite friend or two.

Rowing is one of the most elegant of Olympic sports.  Teams — called “crews” — row in hypnotic, rhythmic synchronization and blast across the water faster than the most sleek and/or creepy water bugs.

No, it’s not a fair comparison (bugs do not wear Spandex) but it’s true.

The Lake Lanier Rowing Club is willing to teach you to row.  They’ll provide you with everything you could possible need, except:

  • muscles
  • stamina
  • swimming lessons
  • the will to outrun water bugs and
  • Spandex.

Lake Lanier Rowing Club can train you to have muscles.  Practice will instill endurance.  Positive reinforcement and pleasant competition will teach you to want to annihilate your opponents … although losing with grace is always an option.

The next series of classes begins on Saturday, June 15th and flows through June 29, 2013.

Why will the Lake Lanier Rowing Club do this?  It’s certainly not for the money — although they will trade 100 of your soon-to-be-worthless paper dollars for training that will enable you to outrun banjo music, in case of emergency.

These “ballet on the water” lessons are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the LLRC boat house at 6:30-8:30 PM and on Saturday mornings at 8:00-10:00 AM.

The LLRC boat house is at Clarks Bridge Park on Clarks Bridge Road, where the Chattahoochee River becomes Lake Lanier.
