Southern Living Loves Lake Lanier (Of Course)

Southern Living Magazine chose wisely.

Our own Lake Lanier was listed among the 20 best lakes in the South in one of their recent editions.

Are we surprised Lake Lanier made the list?  Heavens, no.  Are we surprised they mentioned all the other, lesser, lakes?  Of course.

Five of the top 20 lakes mentioned are in Georgia.  Locating the other mere bodies of water must have been quite a chore for the writers and editors, but that’s what Wikipedia is for, I guess.

Lake Lanier has all the grandeur of the Thousands Islands area between New York State and Canada, along the St. Lawrence Seaway, but none of its horrid winter weather.

Lake Lanier has all the beauty of tropical islands, but we don’t have to fear things like ingesting bacteria-infested food or dysenteric water.

Lake Lanier is as lovely as Lake Tahoe, but without all the crazoid Californians.

Lake Lanier is as inviting as the Florida Keys, but without all the old people, Jimmy Buffet kooks, sharks and snakes.

Lake Lanier is as cozy and graceful as Banff’s Lake Louise, without all the people who compulsively say “eh?” at the end of every dang sentence.

Lake Lanier is heaven compared to Lake Erie, and Lanier never spontaneously catches fire.

Lake Lanier is even as beautiful as Maine’s Moosehead Lake, but lacks the swarms of insanity-inducing black flies that darken the sun and are only slightly less frightening than flying monkeys.

Yes, friends, Lake Lanier is an unparalleled paradise that epitomizes the elegance of lakeside fun.

We could not find a more dandy place to live, love, work and play.

If you don’t live here, please accept our invitation to join us for vacations, family gatherings, a honeymoon or weekend getaway.  We’re happy to share Lake Lanier.  It’s the least we can do for people who live in inferior places.
