Lake Lanier is Going Down the Drain

Ten days ago we reported that the water level of Lake Lanier had dropped by 16 inches during the previous week.  On November 16, 2012, the lake’s level was an even 1,059 feet — a dozen feet below full pool.

Today, November 26th, the lake has fallen to 1057.89.  That’s a drop of 1.11 feet of water in ten days — or 13.32 inches in ten days.  Previous announcements said the lake might be drawn down by 6 inches per week.  I’m not a rocket scientist, but the way I figure it … the lake is going down by 9.3 inches per week.

The lowest level of Lake Lanier occured on December 26, 2008 when it sunk to 1050.70 feet.

At this rate we’ll hit that mark by the end of January.

We have two options:

  1. We can all sit lakeside and fill Lanier with our tears.
  2. Pray for rain.

Your choice.
