Like many other “older Americans” I don’t know much about current rock singers and bands. Sure, everybody has heard of Tailor Parry and Katie Swift, but yoots today think Paul McCartney’s first band was Wings and the song, Free Bird, is the National Anthem of Alabama.
Our pals at Lanier Islands are planning a Peace Mission to bring members of all generations — except those who seriously believe any music produced in the 80s had any redeeming merit whatsoever — to meet and party together at Sunset Cove on Saturday, July 25, 2015.
A day that we will all remember (maybe) as The Day the Monsters of Mock Brought Us Together.
Yup.
Forget that old band (that I never heard of) named the Monsters of Rock (if you haven’t already).
A radio station that is so cool it doesn’t need “call letters” (like the ones old people listen to) and calls itself “97.1 — The River” is teaming up with Lanier Islands to help old and young “RELIVE that concert experience!”
Please Note: Old folks should not fear attending this musical bash because they don’t want to relive experiences from rock concerts held in the previous century where we did you-know-what with you-know-who. Thank you.
Now, the concert promoters are not pretending that these “tribute bands” rocking Sunset Cove are the actual acts that they sound exactly like, although the are capable of such deception. You would not believe, for example, how many people were fooled into thinking The Monkees were musicians that knew how to play — not just hold — guitars.
Please Note: Ask your grandparents about The Monkees. They know all about them, even if they act like they don’t, so that you’ll think they’re cool.
The River and Lanier Islands are telling the truth and nothing but the truth about the bands performing at The Monsters of Mock!
Here’s the line-up of performers for The Monsters of Mock:
- The music of Kristin Tinsley (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
- Krotona (new alternative rock bands like Kings of Leon, Black Keys, & QOTSA)
- Pandora’s Box (Aerosmith)
- White Winged Dove (Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac) and
- A1A (Jimmy Buffet).
If that doesn’t make any sense to you, don’t worry!

After a few hours in the sun on Lake Lanier’s shore, a couple of cold beverages and Pretty People all around you, you’ll figure it out.
We cannot guarantee that any of these bands will play Free Bird, but we can guarantee you’ll hear it coming from a boat or two anchored nearby.
Here’s the best news! The admission fee to The Monsters of Mock is included with your regular LanierWorld daily or beach admission.
I know. This all sounds too good to be true. Just to be sure we have the facts straight, click on the link below.
