The first of 20 solar-powered lights have been placed on existing hazard markers on Lake Lanier, under a pilot program from the Lake Lanier Association (LLA).
I know what you’re thinking.
“Solar powered? On Lake Lanier? This summer? Hahahah!”
Sure, rain-powered lights would make more sense here this year, but there aren’t any.
We still think the installation of the solar-powered lights is a great idea. Who knows? Maybe it will be sunny on Lake Lanier again someday. We have to have hope — even if it’s stupid to believe in something that hopeless.

- Three Sisters Islands
- Four Mile Creek
- Six Mile Creek and
- Young Deer Creek.
The lights are on a photocell, so they will only operate in hours of darkness. They are yellow in color and flash on for one second, then off for three seconds.
I was scheduled to go out on Lanier with real, live important people to take pictures of the lights, but the trip was called off.
Yup, it rained that day.
I couldn’t share any cool pictures with you, but I found a shot that will have to suffice until I take real pictures on Friday.
Unless it rains.
For the next 12 months, the Lake Lanier Association will be collecting feedback from the community on this idea.
