First Day Hike at Don Carter State Park

The First Day Hike at Don Carter State Park takes place on January 1st 2018.  Get it?  First Day Hike?  First day of the New Year?

The runner-up name for this hike was, “Sober Up in the Woods on New Year’s Day.”

First Day Hikes in Georgia’s State Parks

Up at the tippy-top of Lake Lanier, which is really the Chattahoochee River upstream from Lake Lanier Olympic Park, lies (lays?) Don Carter State Park.  Today, it’s still a hidden treasure that has not yet been discovered by the masses.

This year’s First Day Hike at Don Carter State Park will be led by a Ranger who guarantees that you will not get lost or eaten by bears.  Even though you will be allowed to hike on paths that have not yet been opened up to the general public.  The new trails are scheduled for their debut sometime this spring.

You’ll experience views of Lake Lanier that are a world away from the madness of Cocktail Cove and the superboats racing down by the dam.  Carter State Park is where the living and hiking is easy, especially on the Dog Creek Outer Loop Trail that’s about 1.5 miles long.

Following your First Day Hike — which would be a terrific “first date hike” — you can rest your bones back at Shelter 4.  You will be greeted with the best “room service” that you will find in any park.  How about a cozy campfire with s’mores and hot chocolate!

What a way to start the New Year!

Call today for reservations at 678-450-7726.  Hikes will begin at 10 AM and 1 PM.  They’re limited to 15 individuals.  If necessary, they might add another group hike, but don’t dawdle.

Ya snooze … and you watch football all day.
