The Gainesville/Hall ‘96 Foundation and its newly elected board of directors met for the first time on Friday, August 17, 2013, at the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce (GHCC) offices in Gainesville.

The non-profit organization’s goal is to restore the Lake Lanier 1996 Olympic Rowing Venue facility and to generate revenue from it in the future.

The cost of renovations is estimated to be anywhere from just over $1 million to just under $2 million, depending on how much work is done to docks, the boathouse and other buildings, in addition to wages and benefits for a full-time facility manager.

Many local groups are working together toward this goal:

  • Hall County
  • City of Gainesville
  • GHCC’s Vision 2030 program
  • Lake Lanier Rowing Club
  • Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club and
  • The Gainesville/Hall ‘96 Foundation.
