We’re happy to report that our pal, Marketing & Event Coordinator Scarlett Fuller, sent us a list of upcoming events at Hardman Farm State Historical Site in Helen, GA.

Travel through centuries of culture at Hardman Farm State Historic Site along the iconic Unicoi Turnpike, once a Native American trail, passing through a historic farm landscape and linking Georgia’s earliest inhabitants with the enduring legacy of the Nichols and Hardman families’ and their Nineteenth Century Italianate mansion.

Saturday, June 15th – “Dairy Day”- 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The Mobile Dairy Classroom is a dynamic and fun educational program operated by the Agricultural Commodity Commission for Milk. The 30 ft. Mobile Dairy Classroom features a fully operational milking parlor containing a live cow used for milking and feeding demonstrations. The goal of the program is to provide children and adults with a better understanding of where milk comes from, how it is processed, the healthy benefits of consuming dairy products and dairy farmers’ management of natural resources. This is a free event.

Saturday, June 29th (date is weather dependent and subject to change) – “U-Pick Corn Harvest Day”- 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Governor Hardman grew several acres of corn to feed his livestock. The UGA White County Extension and Hardman Farm have grown an acre of pesticide free corn. Come pick some corn, listen to bluegrass music, play corn hole and enjoy a beautiful day in the Valley. Tours available on the hour; standard rates apply. Grounds admission to the festivities is $6 per person and includes 1 dozen ears of farm fresh corn.

Saturday, June 29th – “Farm Animal Fun Day” – 10:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. Over the years, Hardman Farm has been the home to several species of livestock. Come visit and pet some furry friends here on the Farm as we continue our journey to “bring the farm to life” and keep the American agricultural experience alive. Pricing: Animal encounters are free with site admission. Your site admission also includes a tour of the Mansion and Farm.

Saturday, June 29th – “Emory Jones Book Signing” – 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Hardman Farm celebrates its past with Emory Jones, author of “Distant Voices: The Story of the Nacoochee Valley Indian Mound.” He will read excerpts from his new book, “The Valley Where They Danced.” This post-WWI historical novel features scenes from Hardman Farm. Hear excerpts prior to your tour and then bring back questions for Mr. Jones afterward.

Tuesday, July 9th – “Anna Ruby Tuesday” – 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. What was life like for a well-to-do girl in Nacoochee in the 1870s? In this one day camp, 6-10 year old girls will play period games, try on period clothes, and have an English tea. Advanced registration required. Email [email protected] to sign up. $30 per child.

Tuesday, July 16th – “Arrowheads Through the Ages” – 10:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. In this one-day camp for children ages 6-10, the evolution of Native American hunting tools will be explored.  What tools were used for which animals?  How did they change over time?  The fields of Archaeology and History combine with recreation to create a fun, active day for kids.  Advanced registration required. Saturday, July 27th – “Farm to Table” – 5:00 p.m. Join us as we celebrate nearly 150 years of harvest at Hardman Farm. We invite you for an evening in The Valley, featuring live music, period dressed characters teaching about the history of the Farm, and a locally grown dinner and drinks. The dishes will be based on what would have been enjoyed in the summers of the early 1900s. $85 per person. Advanced tickets required. Purchase tickets by calling 706-878-1077.
