Autumn Brings Earlier Closing Times to Some USACE Parks

Summer’s last gasp brought daily highs in the 90s and dry weather.  Fall’s first full day on Sunday, September 23, 2018 was beautiful as well.  Whether it’s hot, or cool and rainy, autumn brings earlier closing times to some US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) parks on Lake Lanier.

On Monday, October 1st, three of the very popular USACE recreational areas on the south end of the lake, near Buford Dam, will have earlier closing times until next spring.

These parks will close at 5 PM daily:

  • Lower Pool West
  • Lower Overlook Park

Sunset occurs at 7:19 PM EST in Gainesville, GA, on October first.  It will still be sunny and bright at 5 PM, but that’s when the new closing time begins.

Folks might be tempted to park their cars and go for a run … or take a slow walk near the lake.

Cars not removed by closing time are subject to being towed.

For those of you who walk/run Laurel Ridge Trail, Lower Overlook is usually the park used to access the trail. Please be aware of the change in time and adjust your schedules accordingly.  Vehicles left in Lower Overlook after 5 PM will be towed at the owner’s expense.

USACE personnel will attempt to alert visitors that parks are closing “roughly 20-30 minutes prior to park closure.”

For once, take your eyes off the skies.  Keep an eye on the time, and please be on your way by 5 PM.  Thanks.
