I wouldn’t drive to Atlanta to see The Beatles perform with Ravi Shankar, John Coltrane and Simone Dinnerstein, even if I had free tickets. But, hearing the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra perform in Gainesville at the Smithgall Arts Center on Friday, June 22, 2018, is worth the trip.
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is returning to The Arts Council for its 43rd year, continuing its annual tradition of bringing artistic excellence to our region.
This outdoor performance of the ASO at the Arts Council Smithgall Arts Center begins at 8 PM, with the gates opening (think: stampede) at 6 PM.
Just look for the old railroad engine, near the statue of the chicken. The Arts Center lawn is so near, they’re probably embarrassed.
Tickets range from $28-35 each. That’s cheap, if you ask me, compared to fighting your way into Atlanta, paying for parking or getting booted, buying Atlanta Symphony Orchestra tickets, fighting your way out of Atlanta, gas and Peach Pass fees of $732 each way.
Or spread a blanket on a lawn for a personal performance with your own goodies.

Conducting the performance in Gainesville will be Mr. Stephen Mulligan, who was appointed as the Assistant Conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Music Director of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra in August 2017.
From 2014 to 2016, Mulligan served as Assistant Conductor of the Winston-Salem Symphony and the Music Director of the Winston-Salem Symphony Youth Orchestras Program. Mulligan has also assisted with programs at the Los Angeles Philharmonic, including productions of Bernstein’s West Side Story at the Hollywood Bowl and John Adams’s Nixon in China at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Snag your tickets soon for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on the Smithgall Arts Center lawn, Friday, June 22, 2018. There’s no better to start your summer in Gainesville.
