Laurel Park: The Best Public Park on Lanier

Laurel Park has more to offer visitors than any other public park on Lake Lanier.

If you’re looking for a park on Lanier to let your dog run around, you have one choice: Laurel Park.  That’s where you can let Spike frolic with the big dogs, while Muffy hops safely in the field next door.

Begin a long-term relationship with this lovely place to walk along the shore.  The paved trail at Laurel Park was made for you.  Enjoy the breeze and the trees, as you stroll with friends, old and new.

Laurel is where many of the best local teams gather to play baseball.  The facilities are excellent.  Take yourself out to the ballgame at one of Georgia’s best recreational areas.

Little kids love to play at the splash park, and we grandparents love it too.  We’re just far enough away to stay dry, but close enough to help if necessary.

The large, covered pavilions are right by the parking lots.  That way, you’re not lugging all the BBQ fixin’s and bags of ice across lumpy fields to set up.   When it’s time to go?  Just pick up your trash, wave goodbye and you’re on your way.  That’s nice after a long day.

Hall County Parks skillfully maintains the tennis courts, volleyball facilities and a mile-long running track.  Or, stake out your own spot where you can sit quietly in your chair and read about lesser places in other parts of the world.

If you fish, we’ve saved the best for last.  Laurel Park has all that’s needed to operate a major-league fishing tournament — or a friendly contest with the folks next door.  Huge parking lots.  Multiple boat ramps.  You’ll even find bleachers where you can present yourself with the award for World’s Best Fisherman!  (Sorry, you’ll have to bring your own crowd and marching band.)

Get to know Laurel Park.  With so many BBQ Cook-Offs, musical events, seasonal festivals and holiday fireworks, you will return often for the best that Lake Lanier offers us all … at Laurel Park.

Laurel Park is practically perfect in every way.  The one exception?  You probably won’t find it the first time you go there.  If you’re driving north, out of Gainesville, slow down about a mile after you pass the large bridge on Cleveland Highway (Route 129).  Look for New Bridge Baptist Church on the right, and turn onto New Bridge Church Road.  Bear right onto Couch Circle.  Then, turn right when that little road dead-ends at Old Cleveland Highway.

I know.  Sounds complicated.  It is … the first time.  After that?  Pfft.  Like a day at the beach.
