Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites Public Affairs Coordinator Kim Hatcher tells us Don Carter State Park was the recipient of the Resource Enhancement Award during the recent Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites Managers Conference.

This prestigious honor was accepted by former park manager Will Wagner for improving land use and infrastructure of Georgia’s newest state park.

Our pal, Will Wagner has accepted a new position as manager of Smithgall Woods State Park in Helen.

A few of the land use improvements at Don Carter State Park included:

  • invasive plant species removal
  • landscaping
  • lake shore cleanup
  • trail maintenance and
  • aquatic invertebrate sampling.

Don Carter State Park is a hidden gem on the Chattahoochee River arm of Lake Lanier.  This picturesque spot is perfect for picnics, fishing, swimming, camping, boating, reunions, walking, and letting kids run around on the playground to wear them out before bedtime.

Looking for a glorious getaway?  Spend the night in a cozy, spacious lakeside cabin!
