Lake Lanier Full? On May 1st?

INiagara confess.  I was a doubter.  I didn’t believe Lake Lanier could rise 14′ in a few months.  But I hoped and prayed.

Are you as amazed as I am that Lake Lanier is above full pool?

The US Army Corps of Engineers, as you probably know, has two definitions for “full pool” on Lake Lanier:

• Summer Full Pool — from May 1 through November 30 — is 1071 feet.

• Winter Full Pool — from December 1 through April 30 — is 1070 feet.

At 6 AM on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 Lake Lanier’s level was [Click Here for Drumroll] 1072.28!

On December 2, 2012, Lanier was exactly 14′ below where it is today.

Lake Lanier has hit new milestones:

  1. Laws mandating the use of life preservers for young folks 13 and under
  2. Laws lowering the Boating Under the Influence blood alcohol level for boaters
  3. There is actual wet-type water in the lake.
  4. Boating is more than dodging rocks and sandbars!

Sing it with me!  “It’s summertime! Summertime! Sum-sum-summertime!”  (Kids: Ask your grandmother.  She’s cooler than you think.)

Here’s how today’s level on Lake Lanier compares to other years on May 1st:

  • 2012:  1064.93
  • 2011:  1071.07
  • 2010:  1071.77
