Hot Air Balloons in Helen, GA

Tired of Kansas and that old witch down the street?

Grab Toto and head to Helen, GA, for the 39th Annual “Helen to the Atlantic Balloon Race & Festival” beginning Thursday, May 31, 2012 through Saturday, June 2nd.

Tell the boss you have a serious case of gas and you can’t make it to work.

Better yet, book a room in Helen Wednesday night and have an early breakfast.  That way you’ll be up to watch the balloons get gassed up and hit the skies at 7 AM Thursday.

Few things are as cool as watching a bunch of friendly lunatics flame their way into the air in hot-air balloons … racing one another from the “mountains” of North Georgia to the Atlantic Ocean (or Oz, whichever comes first).

If you’re crazy enough to want a ride, you can do it up in style.  Take a champagne cruise!  Hey, enough champagne and you won’t care about landing — unless you see a flock of flying monkeys heading your way.  For the more rational individuals, you can have a “tethered” ride that is sort-of, kinda, nearly, almost, guaranteed not to send you zooming into the sun, a la Icarus.

C’mon.  Get up early.  Head to Helen and keep your eyes on the skies for the dazzling display of hot-air balloons filling the skies over Helen and beyond.
