Kiss summer goodbye and give autumn a big hug.
Celebrate the end of too hot weather and seriously bad hair days.
There are a million cool ways to have fun, but if you’re wondering what to do we have a few suggestions.
Living Dead Dash
Sponsored by the Flowery Branch High School Band. Come and see if you can escape the living dead. This four-mile race will be held mostly on gravel roads and will feature zombies trying to capture your flags. Special prizes will be awarded to those with at least one flag left at the end. Awards will be given to the top male and female survivor, if there are any.
It takes place at 8 AM at Flowery Branch High School on Spout Springs Road in Flowery Branch.

Contra Dancing at Sautee Nachoochee
I know. What could possibly compete with zombies? But … how about nice people, great music, fantastic excercise and a place to go dancing where even YOU won’t look goofy.
Contra dancing is all that and more. If you’d enjoy laughing with people (not at them), moving around to music and country fellowship, try contra dancing. I have and I loved it.

Kyle’s Knights Charity Motorcycle Ride
Ever had the urge to blast through a red light and wave to a police officer? Here’s your big chance, Bubba.
A police-escorted motorcycle ride that raises money to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) takes place on Saturday. Registration begins at 8 AM at Sardis Enrichment School on Sardis Road. This three-county ride takes off at 10 AM on the dot. Yes, you get to ride through red lights, but only until the ride ends. After that, you’re on your own.
I rode with these folks last year and it was a blast. Take your honey for a ride … for a good cause.

Taste of Gainesville
This rocks. Great food from all the best restaurants in the region, served on the shores of Lake Lanier’s Chattahoochee River, right where the Olympic rowing events were held in 1996.
Fancy food. Decent people. Fun music. Perfect spot for dancing and dining.
If this isn’t enough fun for you, please move back to New Jersey. Thank you.
Please Note: We have been informed that all single individuals will meet the partner of their dreams at this event.

Oktoberfest in Helen
Autumn in Helen is the best time of the year, except for spring and summer.
Oktoberfest is more than herds of people in weird outfits pretending you’re in the Alps instead of North Georgia. It’s a time when you get a hankering for potato pancakes and the wurst kind of sausage anywhere.
Hint: The accents give the locals away, until you have too much beer. Then you’ll be sure they’re speaking German.
Enjoy the food, the music, the beer, the pretty girls and the dancing … but don’t drink and drive. Please.
