Body of Chad Frank Lovett Found in Lake Lanier

We regret to inform you of the death of Chad Frank Lovett.  His body was recovered from the water near the shoreline of Lake Lanier at Mary Alice Park in Forsyth County on Monday, November 24, 2014.

According to Deputy Doug Rainwater of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) completed an autopsy on the body on Wednesday, November 26th.

The autopsy revealed no signs of trauma or foul play.  However, no official cause of death was reported to lakelanier.com.

Through fingerprints, the GNI identified the victim as Chad Frank Lovett, 46 years of age.  As of 11-26, officials determined that Chad Lovett was homeless and living in a tent at a campsite at the park.

An acquaintance of his informed authorities that Chad Lovett owned a kayak that he used to go out  on Lake Lanier and to visit various islands on the lake.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section is investigating the death.  Should more information be released we will update this story.

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Chad Frank Lovett for their loss.

      You really understand what I tried to accomplish. That means a lot to any writer.

      In a former career I worked at several radio stations. The teletype machines clacked out passionless death notices all day and night, as if from a scene in a Twilight Zone episode. I probably read thousands of them. Most were followed by “and now … a look at the weather.”

      Those who perish at Lake Lanier — or anywhere — deserve a farewell salute.
