On June 10, 2011, Hall County applied to the Savannah District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) for a proposed water supply reservoir on Flat Creek in the Upper Chattahoochee River Basin in Hall County.

The application is for a Department of the Army Permit pursuant to Section 404 of the Clean Water Act (33 U.S.C. 1344) which regulates the discharge of dredged or fill material into waters of the United States.

A vital aspect of building the reservoir is the successful completion and acceptance of the Glades Reservoir Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

The ACE has a website to keep the public informed about the Glades EIS, with:

  • background information on the proposed project
  • associated EIS documents
  • information on the project scoping process
  • public involvement activities and
  • progress of the tasks associated with the EIS.

Water is the key to physical life.  Just ask anyone in the eight counties in West Virginia who endured several days without safe water in January of 2014, when the Elk River was polluted by industrial chemicals — closing thousands of schools, hotels/motels, restaurants and businesses, even in the state’s capital.  Click Here for Details

There will come a day when residents of North Georgia will need all the pure water they can possibly get.

Should this project actually see the light of water in the next few years, those responsible will, in my humble opinion, be seen as exemplary leaders with uncommon vision and perserverance.
