We regret to inform you that the bodies of two young men were found in Lake Lanier on Friday, January 10, 2014, near Frederick’s Cove in Dawson County, according to reliable sources, including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Mason Cox and David Wood, both 20 years old, were friends who often fished in the area.  They had been missing since about 3:30 AM on Thursday, January 2nd, when they told their families they were going fishing — although they reportedly left their cars, personal items and fishing gear at their homes.

Searchers from the Department of Natural Resources, and Dawson and Hall Counties used sonar, among other means, to locate the bodies in Lake Lanier at about 5:30 PM, not far from a dock in Frederick’s Cove.

The clothed bodies, according to the GBI, did not have visible signs of trauma.  An autopsy will be conducted on Monday, January 13th.

We are thankful for the efforts of so many search and rescue teams involved in finding these young men.

We extend our sympathies to the families and friends of Mason Cox and David Wood.
