The 18th Annual Atlanta Dragon Boat Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 14, 2013, at the Olympic Rowing Venue on Lake Lanier.
Sorry, but you won’t have time to create your own dragon boat, if you don’t have one already. The 39-foot teakwood (or fiberglass) racers take a month to build.
They’re pretty hard to miss among the bass boats and party boats on the lake. The dragon heads at the prow and scary tails at the stern are unique — except, perhaps, for those times when your in-laws are aboard your boat.
The races are more popular than ever: 72 teams will compete this year on Lanier.

Festivities begin at 7 AM and things wrap up around 4 PM.
The noontime ceremony is especially interesting.
Make a day of it with family and friends at the Dragon Boat Festival.
