Mike Farris’s album, Shine for All the People, was the first to receive a Grammy for Best Roots Gospel Album.

Grammy Award winning Mike Farris and the Roseland Rhythm Revue will perform Friday, August 28, 2015, on the Smithgall Arts Center Lawn, near the old locomotive and the Chicken Statue in Gainesville, courtesy of The Arts Council.

The Roseland Rhythm Revue features the McCrary Sisters, and a full horn section playing soul and jazz.

The McCrary Sisters will perform their a cappella (Greek for “without cappella”) Dig a Little Deeper , a song their dad sang with the Fairfield Four.

Farris and friends play music The Arts Council says is “One part blues, one part rock, one part jazz and a whole lotta gospel R&B soul.”

The backing ensemble gels on an eight-minute I’ll Take You There  that pays respect to the Staple Singers but raises the temperature on a cover that incorporates rock guitar along with call-and-response singing that approaches the original in sheer inspiration.

Bring a lawn chair, a picnic and your favorite beverage, or buy dinner at the concert.

Gates open for Mike Farris and the Roseland Rhythm Revue at 6 PM.
