Our pal Brenda Miller from the Lake Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club (LCKC) shared some good news with us about how our local paddlers fared at the USA Canoe/Kayak Sprint National Team Trials recently held in Oklahoma City.

According to Brenda, seven of the eleven paddlers selected to the 2015 USA Sprint National Team are members of the Lanier Canoe and Kayak club!

2012 Olympian Tim Hornsby — along with teammates Stanton Collins and Chris Miller — have been named to the Men’s Kayak group.

Local canoers, Ben Hefner, Ian Ross and Gavin Ross make up three-fourths of the Men’s Canoe group.   Alex McLain earned her way onto the Women’s kayak group.

These paddlers along, with Coach Claudiu Ciur,  head to Europe this month for World Cup 1 in Montemor-O-Vehlo, Portugal and World Cup 2 in Duisburg, Germany.

And you thought paddling was painful.

The 2015 U23 World Championships Team is also made up of several LCKC paddlers: Ben Hefner, Ian Ross, Gavin Ross in Men’s Canoe and Aaron Mullican in men’s Kayak.

Other local paddlers qualifying for the Jr. World Championships Team: are Riley Brunner and Tyler Martin, Men’s Canoe; Owen Farley-Klacik, Men’s Kayak; and, Farran Smith, Women’s Kayak.

The U23 and Jr. World Championships will be hosted in Montemor-O-Vehlo, Portugal in July.

Coach Ciur was named by USA Canoe/Kayak as the US National Team Coach for these events.  In response, he said, “We are very proud of these paddlers and that Lanier Canoe Kayak Club will be well represented at International events in 2015.”

We’re very proud of our hometown team too.
