Ooops!  We laid an egg in our previous news release about the lighting of the Great Chicken!  The new time is (ready?) 7 PM!

Pffft.  Forget the Great Pumpkin.  Forget South Carolina’s Peach Butt.  Forget the national Christmas tree.  Gainesville has the Great Chicken!

Come see the Winged Wonder get lit up for the Christmas season on Thursday, November 20th!

The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce will host its Annual Holiday Business After Hours and Main Street Gainesville’s Jingle Mingle on the Square from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Please Note:  No fowl play will be allowed.  Thank you.

The lighting of the Great Chicken is sponsored by Main Street Gainesville and is open to the public.  Come and wing it with the your brethren from the Poultry Capital of the World (perhaps even all known galaxies) who break out of their shells for this annual event that has no equal.

Shops around the square will be open late with specials and treats for the entire family.

For example:

  • Photos with Santa on the Square
  • a Kiddie Train
  • Carriage Rides
  • Open Houses
  • food, drink and fun!

Only an egghead would think that’s not enough.  Just in case, the organizers have more under their wings:

  • Santa will arrive by fire truck to take photos with children.
  • Downtown shops will offer special events or discounts.
  • The Believers Concert Band from Gainesville First United Methodist Church will perform holiday music in the Main Street Market at Sweet Magnolia’s.

The main course will be the Annual Lighting of the Great Chicken atop the Main Street Market at 7 PM.  You’re not going to believe this, but there is No Charge to witness the Lighting of the Great Chicken.

Please Note:  Don’t worry.  Electricians assure us the Great Chicken will not be fried.

Don’t chicken out.  Come strut your stuff on the square for the semi-official start to the Christmas season.

Please Note:  There will be free p’gawking on the Square.

Ho, ho, ho.
