Rahab’s Rope is a store on downtown Gainesville, GA’s Square, named after a prostitute in the Bible’s Old Testament Book of Joshua.

God spared Rahab from the destruction of Jericho because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho.  Rahab delivered Joshua’s men by lowering a rope for them to use in their escape from the city’s walls.

Just over a decade ago, Vicki Moore founded Rahab’s Rope after reading horrific news of millions of women and girls forced into prostitution and slavery worldwide and how an estimated 200 women a day enter the sordid world of sex trafficking against their will.

On Tuesday, May 13, 2014 — as Suzannah and I were shopping for gifts for loved ones — Vicki Moore, founder of Rahab’s Rope, entered the store with her husband David, and Georgia Congressman Doug Collins.

Not knowing the importance of our serendipitous meeting at the time, I asked them to pose for a quick portrait and they kindly agreed.  The store’s website reveals more about their visit:

On May 13th, we were honored to welcome Representative Doug Collins to our … retail store. We discussed our ongoing work in India and the upcoming legislation that he supported in the House.

Tuesday evening (May 20), the 5-part bill was passed and on Wednesday morning (May 21), when given a chance to speak about the bill, [Congressman Collins] also chose to honor Rahab’s Rope and our work in India. We are beyond grateful for his support!

Most of the merchandise for sale at Rahab’s Rope is produced by the women who most benefit from the ministry of Vicki Moore and her team.

Our store is an important part of who we are. It is an outlet to sell products made by the women of Rahab’s Rope in India, and it provides significant funding for the entire organization. It also serves as a place of ministry in the United States. In short, it is the perfect merging point for the various components of Rahab’s Rope.

I personally shop there because of the magnificent jewelry, wall hangings, woven bags and handcrafted items on display.

By the time she reads this, Suzannah will receive several more items I could not resist giving her.  One will compliment the gorgeous purple woven bag she wears so well.

We try to give gifts from Rahab’s Rope because we know people will enjoy what they receive.  We also we hope they will support this group’s efforts to rescue women who simply must be rescued.

The store is currently located at 115 Bradford Street, SE, on Gainesville’s Square, but they’ll be moving to a larger location on the Square soon.

Rahab’s Rope is staffed by dedicated volunteers Monday through Saturday from 10 AM until 5:30 PM.  You may reach them by telephone at 678-707-7055.

It won’t be long before you shop for a gift for someone you love.  Choose a meaningful item from the shop … and tell them the story of Rahab’s Rope.
