River groups throughout Georgia offer family-friendly river trips, river hikes, workshops, conferences, clean ups, water quality monitoring and other educational and recreational events throughout the year.
To encourage Georgians to “get out and protect, restore, learn about, recreate and volunteer on Georgia’s Rivers,” Georgia River Network (GRN) — a non-profit organization — devised the “14 in 2014 Challenge.”
GRN wants you to go off your rocker and attend river related events in 2014. The goal is to promote river restoration, protection, and enjoyment.
These Georgia River Network events qualify for the challenge:
- Weekend for Rivers Conference – April 5-6
- Hidden Gems Paddling Events (Ogeechee – May 10; Oconee – Aug. 23; Chattahoochee – Columbus – Sept. 15; Satilla – Nov. 15)
- Paddle Georgia 2014 – Chattahoochee River – June 21-27
- Paddle Georgia: Fall Float on the Flint River – Oct. 10-13
Georgia River Network Executive Director April Ingle says, “Georgia River Network is offering the ’14 in 2014′ program as a way to introduce more people to river issues and engage them in protection and enjoyment of their local waterways. Our annual Paddle Georgia trip down a different river each year is our most popular program. People want more opportunities to connect with Georgia’s wonderful rivers.”
