We regret to inform you that the body found on Lake Lanier near Bald Ridge Creek on Sunday, March 17, 2013, has been positively identified by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime laboratory in Decatur as 48-year-old George “Marty” Counts of Tucker.

This confirmation came from Melissa Cummings with Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources at 5:55 PM on Monday, March 18th.

Mr. Counts has been missing since February 11th, when his unoccupied fishing boat was found near Lanier’s Little Ridge Park.  The deceased had a house on the lake and often went fishing at night.

The Department of Natural Resources and many local agencies valiantly searched for Mr. Counts without success in stormy, cold weather.  Their efforts are deeply appreciated.

We extend our condolences to Mr. Counts’ friends and family.
