Like it or not … buy a gun or not … there are lots of guns owned by people who don’t have a clue how to load, unload, clean or fire deadly weapons. That’s not a pretty picture.
According to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NCIC), the FBI ran 2.8 million background checks for gun purchases nationwide in December 2012 – a new record. The December statistic represents a 49% increase over December 2011, when 1.9 million checks broke the record existing at that time.
If you choose to purchase a firearm, learn how to use it — safely and accurately — in an emergency.
Did you hear the news about the mother in Georgia who protected herself and her two little kids when a man broke into her house in broad daylight?
She fired six shots from a .38 revolver in self-defense. Hit the intruder five times.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is after firing all her bullets, the wounded burglar was still a threat and she was out of ammunition.
Are you thinking what I’m thinking? This could’ve turned out far worse — for everyone. Don’t let this happen to you.
If you have friends or family who are new to firearms, please urge them to learn and practice gun safety.
The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course will be taught in Gainesville, GA, on Saturday, January 26, 2013, by a trained and licensed instructor.
Students will learn the basics of gun safety and much more during this eight-hour training session.
This introductory seminar might raise your confidence in handling pistols, but it is not a sufficient substitute for firing weapons at a gun range, for example. Practice is essential, if you ever hope to hit something you’re aiming at in an emergency.
Many similar courses are also offered in Buford and elsewhere near Lake Lanier.
