Jackson Electric Outage Map

blackoutWinter is upon us.  Weather woes in Georgia are far different than in other, less civilized sections of America.  (Little wonder.)

Even in God’s country, however, storms can cause temporary blackouts.

A friend on Facebook last night told me someone posted a story that 10,000 Jackson Electric (JEMCO) customers in Hall County were without power in the vicinity of Lake Lanier.

I suppose that could have been true, but my weensy plastic Christmas tree was blinking as randomly as ever, and my phone, Internet, cable and router were humming along nicely.

Nevertheless, I went to JEMCO’s website, JacksonEMC.com, to see if there were any truth to the rumor.

I clicked on “News,” “My Account” and “For Home” but there wasn’t any storm news about my account for my home.

Finally, I saw what any woman would have noticed right away: “Storm Center.”  Ha!  I was hot on the trail.  (Oh, yeah.  Can I data surf or what?)

Because not everyone is as sharp-eyed as I am, JEMCO put two identical links on the same page.  Both brought up a very cool map showing how many customers in JEMCO’s ten-county service area were without power — in six colors!

If you need to report a power outage or get the scoop on who else is without JEMCO power, all you have to do is click here.

Unless your power is out.  Then, you’re toast.  Cold toast … with warm butter.
