When you read the words “Sautee Nacoochee,” what comes to mind?
1) The ancient native-American phrase, “If we build an Alpine village, they will come.”
2) Simmering a romantic dinner with your significant other.
3) One of the country’s finest pottery museums.
4) The coolest place on Earth for contra dancing.
5) Weekend concerts in the old schoolhouse.
6) Nothing, because you don’t understand Spanish.
Pretty soon, Sautee Nacoochee will be semi-synonymous with “winter wine weekend.”
The wineries of the Sautee and Nacoochee valleys — Habersham Winery, Sautee Nacoochee Vineyards and Yonah Mountain Vineyards — will uncork the inaugural Winter Wine Weekend on Saturday & Sunday, December 8th and 9th.
They’re going to warm up winter with:
- special tastings
- cellar tours
- library wines
- exclusive wines
- live music and
- hors d’oeuvres. (That’s a snooty word for fancy snacks. Don’t get your hopes up for MoonPies, wing dings, vienna sausage, bar nuts and beer on tap.)
The elegance will overflow on Saturday evening for the Winter Wine Dinner. (Trust me, guys. Your girlfriend will love this and there’ll be plenty of time to stop for a beer later.)
Sylvan Valley Lodge, The Corkscrew Café and Bernie’s Nacoochee Valley Guesthouse are working together to make this special occasion even … well, specialer. Dinner — which will be served at both Sylvan Valley Lodge and Bernie’s Nacoochee Valley Guesthouse — features a six-course dinner and two dandy wines from each winery.
Local shops, Nacoochee Village and the Village of Sautee will be offering specials throughout the weekend, as will several lodging partners.
The Winter Wine Weekend will give you plenty of time to taste and select terrific Georgia wines to give to your friends for the holidays. (Then, if you invite yourself to their homes for dinner, you can enjoy your favorite wines all over again … and still look like a hero.)
Other Activities
Habersham Winery: In addition to a complimentary tasting of current wines, participants will also enjoy a tasting of several vintage library wines, a sample of a current oak barrel aged wine, light appetizers and a spicy, and hot mulled wine.
Sautee Nacoochee Vineyards: Taste wines in the tasting room and then join the winemaker in the wine cellar for hors d’oeuvres, library wines, and an exclusive taste of a yet-to-be-released wine.
Yonah Mountain Vineyards: Enjoy a special wine tasting, including the inaugural Genesis I from the library and hors d’oeuvres, as you listen to the delicious songs of jazz vocalist Monica Spears.
