Dignitaries assembled at the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue (LLOV) to turn over more than a new leaf on November 12, 2015.  They congregated for the groundbreaking ceremony in honor of the renovations coming to the site at Clarks Bridge Park on Lake Lanier.

Venue Manager Morgan House opened the festivities.  Morgan is perfect for his job, with many years of experience as an athlete, trainer and organizer.

Working with Gainesville-Hall 96, Vision 2030 and other groups, Morgan personifies what is needed to restore the site used in the 1996 Olympic Games to worldwide prominence.

Congressman Doug Collins, Senator Butch Miller, Hall County Commission Chairman Dick Mecum, Gainesville Mayor Danny Dunagan and Mimi Collins each expressed their hopes for the venue’s restoration to glory and international prominence.

As we reported earlier, the first phase of spending will bring many improvements to the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The initial $1.7 million will purchase accessible ramps from the Olympic plaza to the finish tower, accessible restroom facilities and other enhancements to make the site navigable by everyone.

We appreciate the leadership of Gainesville-Hall ’96 and their vision to restore the legacy of the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue in light of next year’s 20th anniversary of the Olympic Games.
