We regret to inform you of the death of 49-year-old Christine Earwood of Duluth.

Department of Natural Resources Public Affairs Officer Mark McKinnon informed lakelanier.com that Christine Earwood  had been missing since Labor Day, when she was last seen jumping from a boat at Big Creek on Lake Lanier.

Authorities from several agencies had searched for her since then using side-scan radar, Sector Scan sonar and a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV), among other methods.

Christine Earwood was located at 9:15 AM on Thursday, September 4, 2014, in the water near Holiday Marina in Buford.  Personnel from DNR and the Hall County Sheriff’s Office responded shortly afterward.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is continuing, pending an autopsy that will determine the exact cause of death.

We extend our thanks to rescue and recovery personnel from several local law enforcement and search teams who worked this incident.

We also extend our sincere condolences to Christine Earwood’s family and friends.
