The final Ella’s Run will be held by Right to Hike at 9 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center. Bring your dogs!
The non-profit group Right to Hike (RTH) was formed after Meredith Hope Emerson — a vibrant and deeply loved young lady — lost her life in 2008. In Meredith’s honor, Right to Hike has held an annual 5k called “Ella’s Run.” (Ella was Meredith’s dog, who provided key clues to solving the mystery of Meredith’s death and put a serial murderer behind bars.)
For 10 years, my beloved friends at RTH have organized banquets, fun runs and Ella’s Run. No, it’s not morbid; it’s a celebration of Meredith’s life and yours. Proceeds from the events are used to purchase emergency phones placed on local trails to defend and protect our right to hike.
The final Ella’s Run will be held at 9 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center.

In the words of Right to Hike Co-Founder Julia Karrenbauer:
Friends – Ella’s Run is this coming Saturday. It will be our 10th and final Ella’s Run. It is very bittersweet for this to be the last one – but I am so very proud of everything we have done these past 10 years! It will be a beautiful day! Meredith always provides the sunshine. Would love to see all of you this weekend – bring your friends, family and of course all those sweet pups!

Please join us at the 10th and Final Annual Ella’s 5K & Fun Run Presented by Georgia’s Own Credit Union on Saturday, October 21st. Once again you and your dogs are invited to run the timed 5K course or run or walk the one mile fun run/walk.
As always, Ella’s Run gives you a wonderful time outdoors with your best friends. Come meet some of the most wonderful people on the plant and enjoy music, activities, vendors, food and drinks, door prizes and much more!

The Heroic Search for Meredith

When Meredith was reported missing on a brutally cold New Year’s Day, friends and strangers gathered at Vogel State Park to find her.
Skilled search and rescue teams combed Blood Mountain and the surrounding hillsides night and day.
At night, they did not speak to one another because they were listening for any sound that Meredith might have made. They did not use flashlights because they didn’t want to miss the most faint beam of light, if her own flashlight was running low.
On a mercilessly frigid night in the North Georgia Mountains, searchers only paused briefly for a cup of hot coffee and a bowl of chili before returning, anonymously, to scour through the brush to locate a friend most of them had never met.
Run with heroes … and your pups at Ella’s Run. One final time.
Not a runner? Come and give Julia — Meredith’s roommate and faithful friend — a hug.
Thank Brent Seyler and many others who fought a good fight for their cherished friend.
