Have you heard of the Monsters of Mock concerts at Lanier Islands?
Long before lawyers and copyright laws ruled the world, old people used to say, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” These days imitation will get you a nasty cease and desist letter. Unless you are a rock band playing “tribute music” to legendary rock stars at Monsters of Mock.
I loved this line from the Lanier Islands press release:
Classic rock fans will want to start tuning up their air guitars in preparation for the return of Monsters of Mock to Lanier Islands.
A motley crew of bands on Saturday, June 17, 2017, will make you shout “Yes!” from 10 AM until the last string breaks and the last rolling stone heads home at 11 PM.
The Sunset Cove stage will bump and thump to the music your grandparents loved at the Islands beach, boardwalk and the LanierWorld waterpark entertainment district.
Listen from more than a dozen waterslides and attractions, while you’re playing beach volleyball, minigolf, strolling along the half-mile stretch of white sandy beach, or from your choice of spots to catch a bite or a cool one.
Come early for the Saturday concerts — in this case we mean come on Friday night from 5 to 7 PM — for the beachside Low Country Boil at Sunset Cove Café. Talk about surf and turf.

- 10 AM – 10 PM: 97.1 The River Live Remote Broadcast from Sunset Cove
- 12:30 – 1:30 PM: Acoustic Artist – Sean Thomason
- 2:15 – 3:45 PM: 80’s Tribute Band – Sunset Strip
- 4:30 – 6 PM: Alternative Rock Cover Project – Krotona
- 6:45 – 8:15 PM: Cheap Trick Tribute Band – Dream Police
- 9:00 – 11:00 PM: Head Games, Monsters of Mock Headliner & Foreigner Tribute Band
But, wait! There’s more!!!
Street performers will add to the festive atmosphere. Stilt walkers, jugglers, face painters, hula hoopers and temporary tattoo artists will roam Lanier Islands. We have no news about mimes. If you do see a mime, please remember: you cannot attack them just because they drive you crazy.

- Admission to Monsters of Mock is free for LanierWorld season pass holders or with daily admission.
