What Do All Georgia State Park Volunteers Believe?

It’s not a state-mandated requirement or anything like that, it’s just the way they are.  All Georgia State Park volunteers believe it’s better to give than to receive.  That’s why you can find them serving — for free — morning, noon and night in every State Park in our most excellent state.

They groom trails and clear away downed branches after storms.  They clean stuff and paint stuff.  They’re the first to arrive and the last to leave all around Georgia.

Because all Georgia State Park volunteers believe they have something special to give to others: their time and talents.  And, it brings them joy and fulfillment to invest some “sweat equity” into their favorite special places.

Take mountain streams, for example.  Our Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division has what they call a Stream Survey Team:

The abundance and diversity of fish species in a stream reflects the overall health of the stream and its fish and wildlife habitat.  How do you monitor that?

The Georgia DNR Wildlife Resources Division Stream Survey Team is a small group of technicians, biologists, and seasonal workers who monitor the health of Georgia’s wade-able streams by surveying fish communities.

Here’s how you can help!  Stream Team volunteers provide “additional man power, enabling them to cover more streams across the state.  In turn, these volunteers learn more about the natural resources in their backyards, and gives them the opportunity to spread this knowledge to their community.”

If you have a giving heart and you have some time to share for a good cause, join the other volunteers on the Stream Team or in some other crucial role in a State Park.

Yes, it can be hard work, but you’ll love what you do and the other kind-hearted people with whom you serve — especially at Don Carter State Park, the only State Park on Lake Lanier.

Here’s an A-Z list of all Georgia State Parks.
